Dear Reader,

I hope you enjoyed the summer break and are now ready for what’s yet to come!
While the world is slowly recovering, activities in our smart cities are proceeding and we are getting closer and closer to the long-awaited results.
In recent months we worked a lot on urban mobility, to make it more sustainable and accessible to all, and on energy to make its consumption more efficient for the municipality but also for schools and citizens.

Going step by step:

  • In Valencia, the municipality launched two campaigns in the Poblats Maritim district: the energy initiative “Del Maritim Al Mon” helps tenants to save energy and money and improve their energy behaviour, while the mobility campaign “De la cistella a casa” facilitates the delivery of shopping through e-bikes to incentivise local business and make it greener.
  • Dresden proceeds with the successful opening of MOBIpoints and improves them with new services, like fast-charging stations. Also, last June, the City launched the climate adaptation concept and improved its Sustainable Energy and Climate Adaptation Plan (SECAP). Lastly, the city is also investigating how to feed in renewable energies into the Dresden district heating network.
  • Antalya is renewing its district from scratch. In June, the city held a virtual study tour to present the many activities in process and solutions already available.

Last April, MAtchUP started its webinar activity. The first webinar focused on energy transition, as a responsibility of each and every citizen, while the second explored strategies towards sustainability, to rethink our urban environments and meet the climate targets set by the EU. The third webinar “Replication and business models for sustainable cities” is about to come, mark your calendar on 22nd September, 11am, and register here.

The project is also participation in the session “Digital for the people – It’s more than just tech” in the framework of the EU Week of Cities and Regions and in a policy conference of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, dedicated to building renovation for energy efficiency. Join us!
At this point I am sure you’d like to dive into the latest news from MAtchUP. So I’ll leave you to it and wish you a great new start!
